Storms Knock Out Power To Thousands In Area

Thousands of residents in the area are without power after a quick moving round of isolated thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing down trees and tree limbs on Sunday afternoon, June 30, with Northern Westchester the hardest hit.

NYSEG says 2,276 are without power in the areas it serves in Northern Westchester, 296 of its customers in Dutchess lost power and 67 in Putnam.

About 500 Central Hudson customers lost power in Putnam and Dutchess counties.

Con Ed is reporting 332 outages in its service area of Northern Westchester at 4 p.m., with just a handful of outages south of I-287.

A stretch of Route 35 in Yorktown is closed Route 35 between Broad Street and Greenwood Street due to downed utility lines.

The storm system, which was caused by a cold front, wrapped up by about 3 p.m., bringing about cooler temperatures and less humidity.
